Read Chapter 8 in your text book. Complete the following: Page 284- People and Events Vocab. Page 294- People and Events Vocab. Page 302- People and Events Vocab.
Also, we will be having a test on Jackson and the West on THURSDAY! Please see Mrs. Felice or Mrs. Geldmacher for extra help.
Use the newspaper and a few articles form the internet (no more than 8 from the internet) if needed to illustrate each of the basic social studies concepts. Your report should include at least one article for each concept. Mount each article on a sheet of paper and include a short statement that explains the connection between the subject of the article and the concept. Your report should have a cover and be assembled in an organized fashion.

Culture- the way a life of a group of people
Diversity- involving different types of people or ideas
Empathy- understanding the feelings or thoughts of another
Environment- the physcial surroundings
Human rights- the basic rights of every citizen
Identity- characteritics that mkae us individuals
Interdependence- when individuals work together to achieve their goal
Justice- seeking what is fair
Political system- the functions or activites of the government
Please read Chapters 6 and 7 in your text book. You must complete the following vocabulary: Page 222- Content Vocab Page 242-Content Vocab page 270- People and events vocab
Length: If read aloud, must be between 3 to 5 minutes. Estimate one minute per page and a half.
Scholarship Prizes will be awarded in the amounts of: $250 for first place $125 for second place $50 for third place Open to Smithtown High School East & West students only

The Discovery of Peace while exploring the need of Laws and Security
Topic: Governance, Law and Security
· Governing system- equality and justice for all, rights and responsibilities, and empowerment of civil society · Law- Human rights/ equal rights for women and children/Nature’s moral laws and global ethic · Democratic governance, with tolerance and honor for the difference and self
Task: Create an authentic piece of Art (poster, diorama, sculpture) that depicts how Peace and Tolerance can be promoted through Laws and Government.
Due Date: All assignments must be turned in by Friday Oct 2nd .
